A brief history of antioxidants

VITAMINS have been the massive free radical scavenger antioxidant used since the middle of the last century. It is common knowledge that the antioxidant effect of vitamins could turn out negative, for it can eliminate cell information pathways, vital to the metabolism or the immune system.

A generation of antioxidants named Polyphenols appeared in 1990, being Resveratrol the most relevant and researched compound. Resveratrol is known as an antihyperoxidant or induction antioxidant, due to its action process. Resveratrol is a Polyphenol found in wine-producing grapes (Vitis Vinifera), whose properties currently place it as the best resource against cell aging and body wear.
